The world has so many problems that need fixing, especially here in Africa. We are surrounded by lots and lots of problems. Cmon, we complain everyday about lots of issues. That’s why entrepreneurship is very important, especially here in Africa again. I’m sure we’ve heard this severally, what entrepreneurship is all about but let me just mention it again.
Entrepreneurship is all about spotting a problem, finding solutions to the problem , then putting a price on your solutionOston
Entrepreneurs realize the problems , don’t complain nor rattle but rather see them as opportunities and find appropriate solutions to these problems. More like the reason Africa is the place to be for most investors. These foreign investors learn about our numerous problems, find solutions for us, use us to achieve it then we pay them for their solutions/products. A typical African will complain bitterly, put and shift blames on government, family witches, parents negligence, their old primary school teacher etc instead of finding possible solutions. They’ll wait for someone to solve it then pay to enjoy it. The consumers.
It’s high time we start seeing the problems we face as opportunities and start working towards it. Don’t give me that excuse of lack of resources, enabling environment… etc. Once there is a will, there is a way. When Americans and Portuguese realized they lacked the resources needed to develop their country, they moved to Africa to extract what they needed to develop their country. When the Chinese realized how poor and miserable their lives were, they moved to America to learn the necessary skills they needed, came home then developed mind blowing Tech stuffs. Today, Americans even go there to China, to set up their factories and all. Resources are always limited. But as I mentioned earlier, once there is a will, there is a way. Nothing comes smoothly that’s why it took years to build America, took years to build Europe, took years to build China, Singapore. They were determined, had a goal they wanted to achieve and never stopped till they got it. They didn’t see how difficult the task was going to be, all they wanted and looked forward to was the end results they wanted to achieve.
We too can do this, it’s possible, the journey is not a 2 day job. It will take time, but once we refuse to stop at nothing, we can achieve anything we want. We can move Africa from developing to developed. Things are even easier these days due to the internet connecting people and feeding us with lots of information and technology giving us easy ways to get the job done.
The difference between a black man and a white is the way we think. We Africans like thinking “it’s not possible”, “have you ever seen anything like this before” etc etc.
We always give ourselves excuses why it won’t work and it will never work too with this kind of spirit and thinking. We like one year success stories. Fast ways to get the money and show everybody, Yes! we made it.
But nothing good and lasting came within days. It takes years to build a strong and mighty house. When you rush it and use the shortcuts, it may collapse one day. Once we change our way of thinking, we can change our lives.
